Locations going away, how come?

I have noticed that in some areas that have formally had many Wifi points identified along certain streets, these points are now gone. Every time I check, there are less and less IDed points along those same streets.
Is this a normal WiGLE purge?
I can't believe that some streets that have had 10 located and IDed points in the past are now down to none.

absent actual information: there's no way to tell. detail-free anecdotes make for difficult debugging.

we do remove networks from time to time, but what's far more likely is that they've moved based on other observations.

I doubt that a senior high school and a junior high school have moved.
If anything, the number of points located there should have increased, and not have been reduced to zero.

well, the problem is, the schools obviously didnt move, but the gear inside them may have moved, i.e. being sold to another school district.

Drive by it and log it and then upload the points. Give it a day to update on the maps, and then look again, or try digle. I'd wager to say that they've just upgraded, and the previous points have moved because they have been scanned by someone else in a different area.

The possiblilty also exists that someone representing the school has asked for the points to be removed. My company has a no wardriving on site policy so it wouldnt surprise me if they have asked for their AP's to be removed. They even requested that google blur the site on GE and totally remove it from streetview.

The point is that this is not an isolated incident restricted to a school or two, but the entire neighborhood located at 11553.
All the points that used to be there are gone.

again: if someone *else* observes points, and they do it from a mile away with a yagi, the points *will move*. wigle isn't a canon reference on where things are, its an aggreate on where they've been observed.

lacking information on the specifics, i'd say aliens did it.

I see plenty of points on the map, so I dont know what ones you think have dissapeared. I think I've been in the general area because I recognize some of the street names.

Yes, I have been thru there, on the way to pick up friends from JFK. Dosent look like I got first credit for any of the points there, but if the missing ones are along 678, then I may have moved your points some.

There may be another explanation. I have use an Archos android tablet, and sometimes if Wigle is started before the gps has an initial fix, it will log APs wiht an errent location and a null timestamp. The locations may be several miles away. If someone in the neighborhood is having the same error, it could be remapping the locations as a result.
