It seems the external antanae does the trick!

I hang my antanae over my rear view mirrior. But a true out side antanae would would find alot more I agree.

OP has quite a bit. Ax0n has the Olathe area scoped out deciently. Ive hit some main streets in Johnson county alot of mine come from road trips here and there. I havnt really had time to properly hit everything.

Wifi suggestions

SVGA textmode

I know in linux there is a package called SVGA textmode. You could probably set your text res up to 80x40 or 80x50 pretty easily.

Im not sure if they ported that to BSD yet.

I recomend using the HostAP drivers for linux and using kismet. Kismet is a passive mode scanner which picks up alot more AP's and is generally more comprehensive. Im using freebsd 3.5 stock, no mods.

the orinoco doesnt respond to the "-o" flag. (though i havnt tried bringing up the interface first like the Prism requires.)

Dstumbler Q&A

I installed FreeBSD 5.3 last night on my Toshiba and got dstumbler working with my orinoco. It works with my Linksys Prism3 too but wont go into monitor mode. It gets an io error.

Any thoughts?
