Re: Android app updated - lost all entries in database

What UI changes are you seeing? There are few circumstances under which something like this might happen. 1. This could be a result the Android storage change - Google is forcing apps into "internal" storage - which would "orphan" the old database. That file won't be gone, just no longer in the corr...

Re: Android App version 2.63 Forces Pixel 2XL to reboot @ 10K

Certainly isn't happening with our test devices; I've just tested a Pixel 5, Samsung A10, and others with 32k nets, all keep going strong Can you check and see whether or not you have any crash logs? (and if so, share them with us via email at WiGLE-admin[at]wigle.net) A few other items to check: - ...

Re: here is an Wi-Fi throttle fix for Android 9 users (non root or rooted)

it's an "android debug bridge" command - a developer tool for interacting with Android devices. You have to connect the device to a computer via USB and issue that command in a terminal session. https://www.xda-developers.com/install-adb-windows-macos-linux/ for instructions to install ADB. We've ha...

Re: Was a bypass for Android 9 throttling found?

People have suggested that setting the throttle off via a ADB command works on some implementations. If you happen to test it, please let us know if it works!

See viewtopic.php?f=13&t=2842&p=10784&hilit ... tle#p10784 for how people say you can do it!

Re: WiGLE location no longer runs in 'background'

fix confirmed - it's remarkable that Google would change such a core behavior at the very end of a release lifecycle.

Pixel update RQ3A.210905.001 breaks GPS

GPS no longer updates when the device is locked after upgrading Pixel devices to RQ3A.210905.001. (Android 11 September). Beware, upgrades will render your devices unusable for stumbling. We are researching options.

Re: WiGLE location no longer runs in 'background'

I take that back. GPS appears only to function with the screen on. Furthermore in the case of this update (RQ3A.210905.001), adding

Code: Select all

android.permission.ACCESS_BACKGROUND_LOCATION
has no effect - GPS does not update when the device is locked.

Re: Trilateration query

What you're proposing actually maps somewhat to the clustering approach we use. discarding low-signal points generally isn't necessary, if you're weighting based on the square of signal strength per observation. Trying to infer anything deterministic based on structure is extremely difficult since W...

Re: WiGLE location no longer runs in 'background'

Just upgraded a Pixel 5 to RQ3A.210905.001 - it had silently set WiGLE to "battery optimized" without asking.
Upon disabling, the app behaved as expected.

Re: Trilateration query

That's an excellent question, and analysis. Because we're a sort of "Wikipedia" model, accepting contributions from everyone (lots of users, lots of instances, lots of gear with varying radio and antenna characteristics), we aim to become more accurate over time, but we don't ever achieve perfection...

Re: WiGLE location no longer runs in 'background'

Because WiGLE is written as a foreground Service (https://developer.android.com/guide/com ... d-services), ACCESS_BACKGROUND_LOCATION shouldn't apply, per https://developer.android.com/training/ ... ermissions.

Re: WiGLE location no longer runs in 'background'

It's worth making sure "battery optimization" or "adaptive battery optimization" are turned *off*.
We've definitely seen that make a difference in past instances.

Re: WiGLE location no longer runs in 'background'

thanks for helping out! Still trying to think of what would shut the GPS off when the screen is off. It's a conditional setting Apple provides now, but not common in Android (it would require either a developer setting, or an app that made it happen intentionally, certainly something we don't do!). ...

Re: WiGLE location no longer runs in 'background'

hm, the camera's just for the QR-scan for account login, and "phone" is just to deactivate TTS when you're on the phone. I'm linking this thread to a twitter post in hopes of getting some independent confirmation from other folks with 3as. It's a major problem if it's widespread. If not, we can get ...

Re: Sorting functionality

You're not missing anything - the lack of "order-by" is one of the major shortcomings of WiGLE's api/v2. v3 is arriving endpoint-by-endpoint, but I don't know when we'll get around to search yet. You're very welcome to use the API and sort the results, but as with all elements of the panopticon, the...
