Re: Need advice on building a full spectrum wifi wardriving rig

Amateur Radio operators in the US have access to additional 2.4 and 5.2ghz frequencies not normally tuned by regulated wireless configurations. I started researching this as I am a licensed ham, several more channels not being captured ;)

Re: Tell me about 5GHz

5GHz is supposed to have shorter range than 2.4Ghz, but the spectrum is less crowded. Personally, I'm not giving up my 2.4GHz router yet, especially since I just hacked up a Linksys WRT54GL as a repeater to cover my whole yard (chores are more tolerable with internet radio). I don't see any 5GHz in...

Re: Show your wardriving stuff/box

After the first time running with both a Nexus One and a brand new Raspberry Pi with an Alfa AWUS036H w/ a 9db antenna (and swapping it w/ a yagi half way through the run), I'm almost inclined to agree with you - I know that I don't have my Pi completely optimized, but I think my phone outperformed...

Re: Wardriving with 3 antennas, channel 1,6,11, or scanning?

My rig consists of 3 wireless cards, each with a 7dBi magmount antenna. I am using kismet while wardriving, and I am wondering if I should keep kismet at the default mode (which is each card scanning, evenly distrubuted over the channels), or if I should set one card at channel 1, the next card at ...

Re: re: antenna vs. amps

I returned the triple antenna D-Link mentioned here. I obtained more networks w/my external 5dBi omni on my suv roof than the internal antenna cluster obtained.

re: antenna vs. amps

I follow, that was the point. Get all 4 of your cards on antenna's on the roof and you'll really see a difference. Amp $200.00 or $180.00 for 3 mobile marks. Thanks. I just remembered that I have a small patch antenna that I could connect to one of my usb dongles and also use the external omni 5 dB...

re: amp or more antennas

If there is a choice between a amp and getting all your cards on external antenna's, I would go with more antenna's hands down. Thanks for your comment! I think I should explain myself on my previous point. I had the d-link 3-antenna contraption on the dash of my suv and my external antenna was not...

Re: WiGLE on Motorola DROID

I'm using WiGLEWiFi for Android on my Motorola DROID. Sometimes it works great and other times it seems not to pick up any networks between my start and finish points. Any ideas? I have noticed that unless I turn my wifi on before running the app on my G1 phone it behaves in a similar manner. Also,...

Re: What kit are you using?

I bought WiFiFoFum & Wifi-Where initially & have just added yfy to my iphone aswell, I really like Wifi-Where so far because of the flexibility in the data it exports aswell as wingle.net support. What soft/hardware are you using to gather data?? I summarized a post here: http://wigle.net/phpbb/vie...
