Re: WiGLE WiFi 1.11 Error on Upload: "Fail Error: fail: null

Not sure if this is helpful, but in one case when I tried to upload, I was in the middle of nowhere in a very large park, with no WiFi detected since the entrance. I don't believe my phone was switching between WiFi and 3G, and I had full bars of 3G signal. I was also streaming Pandora at the time, ...

WiGLE WiFi 1.11 Error on Upload: "Fail Error: fail: null"

On occasion when uploading my networks to WiGLE using WiGLE WiFi 1.11 on an HTC EVO, I get the following error: Fail Error: fail: null It seems to happen almost every other attempt. An attempt to upload immediately after succeeds. I haven't been able to find any real pattern, but if you would like m...

UK Laws?

I'm traveling to England and Scotland this weekend for a week and a half long trip. While I'm there, I hope to do some warwalking and what not, but I just realized that there may be some laws against that kind of thing over there. Does anyone know what the laws in the UK say about wardriving? I was ...

Woot, car cam

I had something like this setup at one point....

Image

Uploaded over a 14.4 cell phone connection. 1 frame every 10 seconds. Used a batch file to FTP the images. Worked pretty well. :-)

Hmmmm

Well, the hardware is there. The linksys boxes have a built in utility for scanning for nearby nets. If you wanted to, you could write something to run this, parse the results, and then query wigle for the locations of the nets you found. From there you could get a guesstimate as to where you were. ...

Changed!

They seem to have changed their webpage, replacing wardriver with "WiFi-Hacker". The term wardriver still shows up on that page, but I applaud them for their efforts in correcting the error.

No need to parse

There's no need to parse the page. See this:

And the wiki page:

Yep

Yep. Like I said in the article... no guarantee whether or not WiGLE will add it, especially pending this change requiring authentication. You're probably better off just auth-ing. uhtu or bobzilla can probably better ansewr this question.

User-Agent and Authentication

You can only retrieve simple mode if you're using a WiGLE Approved (tm) user-agent string. Note that this will be changing very soon (if it hasn't already.. I'm not sure I'm on the wrong computer to check). WiGLE will be requiring authentication instead of a special user-agent. See http://www.musatc...

I'm on it

I've been trying to figure out scaling system for some time now of mappoint maps. If I can get that figured out, it will be working in my WiGLE client, Musatcha.com Advanced WiFi Mapping Engine. http://www.musatcha.com/computers/software/wifimapping/ For now, terraserver support is in there. Redistr...

In the works

I'm working on that in the Musatcha.com WiGLE client. As soon as I can figure out their tiling system, then it will be in there. If anybody has any info on that, I would greatly appreciate it.

Errors

Look for data known to be bad, and see if it's in their DB as well. That'd probably be the best way to check. Although anybody smart about lifting data like that would probably fuzzy it up a bit, moving things around so the coordinates are not exact. Heh, they could even apply an algorithm to it I s...

Call me crazy but...

This exact same problem happened to me and 2 of my friends... in every instance, the contacts and what not were just getting worn out from use. Sounds crazy, but I suppose it's possible.

NMEA

NMEA is a one way protocol. You can use your favorite terminal app to connect to it. It should show up as a virtual serial port in some fashion, whether it's labeled as that or not. In win32, fire up hyperminal. Maybe minicom in linux or something like that. 4800,8,n,1 are the settings you're going ...
