Re: Dirt Cheap Wardriving Rig

I'd say the Nexus 7 is roughly 20% better.

Re: Best car for wardriving

At low speeds, the Prius gets way over 100mpg. That's over a 1,000 mile range per tank.
Ah, but how well does it handle unpaved, rutted roads?

Best car for wardriving

If money were no object, which car do you think would be best for wardriving? It was with some regret that I recently had to sell my old Honda CRV in exchange for the larger gas-guzzler I need for work. The Honda sipped gas, was almost unnoticeable, highly maneuverable, had great visibility, and was...

Re: Dirt Cheap Wardriving Rig

That is odd.

So it can detect wifi reliably, but wont allow you to sign in to your own password-protected wifi? Or does it let you sign in to your own network, but gives you a poor connection?

Perhaps you just got a bad unit.

Re: How to correct wrong coordinates?

There is a "Scan off" button when you hit settings in wigle.

Re: Dirt Cheap Wardriving Rig

Are you getting any wifi access at all? How did you load wigle without google play?

Re: 4 Alfa AWUS036 series USB wifi networking cards compared

UPDATE The NHA has arrived! I features a sexy black housing (yes, I need to spend more time socializing) and is plug and play with BackTrack Linux 5 R3. Joy! Curiously, it does not come with the "Y" USB connector that comes with the NHR. My first test run was with Kismet: 1004 APs seen. No...

Re: 3 Alfa AWUS036 series USB wifi networking cards compared

UPDATE Alfa has offered me an NH in exchange for the NHR. Since I already have one, I'm going to try to get them to send me an NHA instead, so I can have a complete test run of the 036 series. So, it looks like my review of the NHR will have to stand as-is. Unless someone wants to give me a free, wo...

Re: 3 Alfa AWUS036 series USB wifi networking cards compared

I used 2 different computers to run my tests, a netbook and a laptop.

The AWUS036NHR is supplied with a cable with a "Y" connection drawing power from 2 USB ports, and Kismet supposedly only listens without transmitting, so I wouldn't think power levels would be an issue.

Re: 3 Alfa AWUS036 series USB wifi networking cards compared

UPDATE Alfa says my AWUS036NHR is genuine. Today, after patching a flat tire incurred during last night's wardriving, I re-ran the same route using the AWUS036H and InSSIDer. I also had wiglewifi running on my razr maxx. Recall that the AWUS036NHR saw 302 APs on this route. Today's results: AWUS036H...

4 Alfa AWUS036 series USB wifi networking cards compared

I have been using an Alfa AWUS036NH wifi networking card for wardriving for the past 6 months or so with satisfactory results, however I became curious about how it stacks up against Alfa's other products, and since they are not prohibitively expensive, I also purchased an AWUS036H and an AWUS036NHR...

Re: Dirt Cheap Wardriving Rig

You should also be able to get the maps via wifi, but this is kind of impractical while wardriving.

Re: A quick Google Nexus 7 review

The Nexus 7 seems to be about 10% better at picking up APs than my Droid RAZR Maxx, which is about half as good as my dedicated rig. I'm still trying running the RAZR as a bluetooth hotspot to update the maps on WIGLE as I travel, but I guess bluetooth's narrower bandwidth makes the maps slow to upd...
