I drive STL mostly south county every few months, not exactly a regular. I have family/friends there, and drive 270, Creve Cour, Kirkwood when I go.

two patch antennae for vehicle?

I have been a big fan of moderate gain omni magmounts for a long time. I also have to replace moderate gain omni magmounts every few years, from wear and tear. I am considering something different (or perhaps additional) for the regular wardriving vehicle. What about two 6.5 db patch antenna, each s...

logging

It could be a four-step program. 1. Learn what your MAC address is (nothing to do with Leo 10.5.2). 2. Learn how to enable logging in your access point. 3. Learn how to read the logs. 4. If you see another MAC address than your own, then someone is suspect. 4b. This may be the wrong site for breakin...

Max size of uploads?

I've bumped into it a few times, but I never knew what the line was. For me, the largest files are usually Kismet *.gps files. Some gzipped are still too large. I often break them up so they won't be so big individually.

American Radio Relay League

Yes, check the 'find a club' page at ARRL. Find somebody close to you, and it should have contact info. The vast majority of hams are online these days, so point them here for more info about our hobby if they need it. A ham guy will be able to explain well the very wide variety of radio services in...

You may as well fight fear-mongering with fear-mongering. Point out that nearly all BABY MONITORS emit the same frequency as most Wi-Fi. Explain (or get the ham to) that signal strength falls off by half every time the distance away doubles. Point out that they are holding their cordless home phone ...

The original posts were in Nov 2007, and they have only made two posts. We're probably beating a dead horse here.

I didn't know about the log formats, I have had logging disabled in my dabbling with it. Thanks for the tip on gpsd, I knew that many were using the older version, I didn't know about the differences. As I usually use old hardware for wardriving, less resource use is always better!

I've been using Debian Sid for kismet for a year, and it works very well. I'm currently running gpsd 2.36 I don't use any switches other than the device name. I've been using 2007.10.r1 since it came out. I been playing around with newcore at home, but I haven't taken it out yet.

Update on this idea: I have the Toughbook installed with Sidux, and logging in an unpriviledged user automatically. A dpkg-reconfigire gpsd has gpsd starting automatically (I got a new BU-353 USB gps and it works very well). It should be easy to poke around in init.d and have the user hit it's .bash...

GPSD/KIsmet have been updated serveral times over the years, but for the last several months, they have remained the same versions. It might be interesting to run two instances of Kismet, one on the older serial GPS and one on the newer USB GPS to compare. Um, nah. As long as I keep dropping zero AP...

As per the first sentence of this thread, the problem wasn't accuracy, the problem was GPS not correlating location with some APs at all. Looking through the stats, I have 10,000 APs that I found, but have no location for. Looking up through the stats, this seems to be a common problem for many. Sin...
