Yah, I noticed that the connector on the front (facing me when inserted face-up into the left side of my laptop) gets better results. I guess I'll order a second magnet mount antenna. I know about diversity for performance but I didn't know it was needed. I don't think I'm going to go too crazy with...

Question about WiGLE points... I need a WiGLE guru!

If I stumble and my GPS blinks out for a bit but in the process I aquire a bunch of previously unseen AP's, they will show up as new networks without GPS. If I go back and hit those same ones with my GPS working, will I get Networks with GPS credit for them or are they gone from my potential GPS poi...

Yah, I said I'm getting serious. It's hard to call yourself a serious 'driver with just a WPC11v3. Of course, there's only a handfull of crazies like you here. Take that as a compliment. ;) Back in the day I made it to the first page overall but it's been a long time. I'm going to make that my goal ...

I guess I'm finally getting serious about hardware...

For quite a while, I've stuck to my Linksys WPC11v3 (Prism 3.0) and D-Link DWL-650 (Prism 2.5) cards, both of which have internal antennae and lack easy methods for hooking up an external antenna. I had a pigtail soldered to the DWL-650 for a while, and made a homebrew omni for my car, but it didn't...

I don't think the iBooks have PCMCIA. That's not a particularly great rig to stumble with. If you want to stumble on a budget, you can pick up a G3 Powerbook like a Wallstreet or Pismo. My wallstreet works great with KisMAC and prism cards.

What kind of mac are you using? I had good luck with a Powerbook G4 using the IOXperts driver for my linksys WPC11v3 PCMCIA card and the built-in airport as the 2 cards.

Anyone up for the 2600 meeting coming up 9/1/06? Oak Park Mall, I'll probably show up after 5PM. Look for laptops, black t-shirts and omnidirectional antennae in the food court. :P

Well, I haven't seen the WiGLE Queue get actually clogged to the point of no return since 2004 or so. Since this massive data dump is probably a one-time thing, it probably doesn't make sense to burn a lot of effort on making a high-priority and low priority queue system. I've got 3 or 4 in line rea...

67 files parsed. 0 new networks today. After 12 hours?
With the new algorithms, it is highly possible that there are hundreds of "cleaned up" datasets that are being re-processed which contain old data, therefore, no new networks, just better data for those networks.

Prism chipset... The only thing I can think of is this... works great on my prism PCMCIA cards but I don't think it does the USB ones. Worth a try though.

I think I already made it clear how I learned to crack WEP. I certainly didn't do it while counting networks. I tried cracking my own network and it took almost a week of gathering packets from just normal daily use (which included a few spurts of high-bandwidth traffic) Definitely not something you...

I'm pretty sure that there haven't been any specific laws targeting logging of wireless access points. If that's the case, if you don't associate to networks that you don't have permission to use, you should be in the clear. KisMAC, Kismet, BSD-Airtools, NetStumbler, Ministumbler and most others DO ...

By the way, KisMAC, while great for stumbling, leaves much to be desired for cracking. All WEP cracking methods aside from brute force require gathering a huge sum of weak packets. Weak packets are naturally very rare, but they occur. The methods for speeding up WEP cracking involve finding a way to...

Mmmmm J&J's I haven't been there in a few years. I actually ride the bus (and 'stumble, thanks to my new setup) through crown center every day. I'm actually kind of back into the sport. I was out of it totally for a few months but I changed jobs yet again and have some free time and better incom...

Since the Monster connection is not protected, you could consider this wardriving. Any idea why I can't connect to it? You're trying to associate (connect) to it. That isn't anything like wardriving. If you got a GPS in your car and figured out its location without obsessing over why you couldn't c...
