I still use my iPaq hx2750 with WiFiFoFum. I cut my wardriving teeth on an iPaq 5550 running miniStumbler and the WiFiFoFum. Active mode scanning isn't as cool as passive, but I have collected lots of APs this way. For GPS I use a bluetooth Holux 236. I also have a cable that provides power and seri...

Re: Any reason to upload without GPS?

It is beneficial, even though wardriving without a gps, has been likened to dryhumping the promqueen.. ;)
Still, nice work if you can get it ;-)

There are a number of options: 1) Save the file as a .KML using the latest version of WiFiFoFum and then map it with Google Earth. 2) Visit www.accesspointlive.com and upload the .XML file. The site uses Google Maps to show the found APs. 3) Save the file as a .NS1 file and upload it to WiGLE. Then ...

Re: kind of confused about this

I'm seeing the same issue with Washington county, MN. I can't get data beyond November 7, 2006 to load anymore. Toggling to Wright county MN county gets data up to Feb 27, 2007. When I go back to Washington county I can see Wigle being re-queried, but I get no more data. I have deleted my cache file...

It would be interesting to plot these points against the number of active users, or the number of files processed. Is the growth of the community they key, or do the top-dogs just continue to acquire bigger and better antennas? It's not quite a Moore's Law progression, but it's starting to feel like...

No fair, Dutch got 9MM and 10MM honors  Maybe next time things get close to another 1MM you can just push Dutch's files to the bottom of the queue, like Netflix does to frequent renters :) Psssst... ---------> http://wigle.net/phpbb/viewtopic.php?t=637 ;) Dutch Aha! It IS a global conspiracy, ...

w00t, naked geographical renderings!

With the queue at 201 files, methinks the back-end is unhappy....

hmmm, can I say 'naked' and 'backend' and 'geographical' in the same post and not get chastised? I'll try it and see....

I believe the setting you are looking for is "Create a Closed Network" in the Airport Admin Utility. It's in the Airport tab, down by the Channel setting. From the Help doc: When you create a closed network with an AirPort Base Station or AirPort Express, the name of the network remains hi...

Re: tao

that's a very existential question. It is. Wigle is an addiction. Absolutely true. Somebody keeps pushing me back towards #100 in the stats, so I go drive a bit farther, a bit more out of the way, off to a new quadrant of a neighboring suburb I haven't wandered yet. Then I'm back at #94...for a day...

Re: as with many things

I reckon that the wigle processing strips that out in the parsing anyway, so just saving some cpu cycles on the C-64 box that runs the Wigle DB ;) Hot damn, the DB box is a C-64 now? Awesome, I thought things felt faster. What's happening with the old Vic-20 now? Just processing Golomb Rules for di...

Also, I originally got my Compaq Armada for BSD-Airtools and Kismet, and my G3 Powerbook, while originally not purchased for stumbling, only sees KisMAC duty nowadays. w00t, count me in. When my serial/power cable for my iPaq 5450 and Garmin eTrex flaked out, I bought a Holux GPSlim 236 Bluetooth u...
