Hello people, i'm the developer of a wifi scanning application for android ("wardrive" named on the Android Market, site project: http://code.google.com/p/wardrive-android/).

I'm currently finding a way to better export a file compatible with WiGLE, and since i'm already exporting to a KML format, and seen that there is an already supported KML format, i wondered if someone could help me on explaining how it's written, so that i can make it compatible.

And maybe even develop an automatic "send to WiGLE" option (obviously using a certain user too). Are there some specs on how this could be done? What does the current website support?

NS1 or the wi-scan text format would probably get you the widest base of alternative readers, but we do parse KML as produced by wififofum.

as to getting it to wigle, the form at http://wigle.net/gps/gps/main/postfile/
is the only effective way to get into the queue, and requires an auth cookie to send as a user.

Since i was already exporting to a KML format which i've roughly defined, i would like to make it compatible just because it's already there.

For posting the data i was actually considering a better format so i'll use one of those. Are there some examples? How are handled empty values?

I've read some documentation about ns1 file format and i believe it's not the best for the application. This beacuse the data i'm gathering are very few and implementing that filetype just for those seems too much. Also because it's a smartphone application and should remain fast, efficient and generally light.

The actual data i have is:
bssid, ssid, capabilities, level, frequency, lat, lon, alt and a timestamp of the scan.
Basically a plain record for each wifi.

(capabilities: a string with the capabilities grouped by "[]")
(level is the signal strength)

I e-mailed the contact on the "post" page, and received an e-mail from bobzilla this morning that he had adjusted it so that wardrive's KML export can be loaded into WiGLE. I tried and the points I uploaded have been loaded into the map. So that's great.

I've been using your wardrive android app on my droid and am really liking it. I'd love to have the wigle posting your looking into, since the android browser isn't allowing file uploads.

I'm wanting to get into android development and wanted to make a wardriving tool specifically to upload to wigle. I'd like to help you in any way I can.

lol, glad I used the search function.

I'm getting my Droid in the next few days, so I was going to ask if there was a program for wardriving yet... sweet

So, is uploading from the phone via the default browser working yet, or will I have to copy it to a PC still?

I am running the standard UK T-Mobile HTC Hero1.6 build on my phone and the upload is still disabled for me. Maneuvers when/if HTC release 2.1 some more browser stuff will open up.

The Opera Android browser supports file uploading, I just started using it for my uploads now :)

Users can now post directly the exported file with a new feature.
Though response messages will remain quite cryptic.

Excellent! We hope in the future even more wardriving clients will include a "send to wigle" button. One note, on my Nexus One the popup menu says "Send saved wardrive.kml to w" and the rest is cut off, maybe you could make that wrap, or have a shorter name?

Thanks for your support!

I know this app and have used it since I got my droid, I love it, it is an awesome app and does everything I thing I think it should. Love the new features and now I have the wigle app to add to my inventory of wardriving apps.

Wardrive is really nice for when you're driving. I like that when you're driving you can run it as a service and go to someplace else in the phone. Overall great work on the app and merging the data to wigle.

hi everybody. great app. works fine, however. when I start to export to kml, it never starts, just says "starting KML export" and stays at 0% 0/100.
any idea how do fix this ?
droid X, rooted.
