When a friend searches for a MAC address in advanced search, they get back a single result from the correct location. When I search for the same MAC, I get numerous results from devices all over the world. Have sat side by side and confirmed that settings are the same. Have run multiple different MAC addresses and get the same results, pages of false hits instead of one result.

your friend probably didn't trip our fraudulent activity-detection countermeasures.
