Newbie Question...
Sub: Wardriving Equipment for NON-Wardriving Use
For God only knows how long we have been trying to get a good access connection at my place where using 54G, a buddy of mine could access my network from a block away (encrypted) for the purpose of gaming/filesharing/etc...
I am just starting out in wardriving and notice that some of the equipment can pick up an AP from a decent distance... now here goes the questions...
Could a good gold setup with an external antenna reach say 1200feet and be able to pass data at least a 11b data rate?

1200 feet? Piece of cake
If you've got the cash, my suggestion would be to get two linksys wap54g's, put 'em in bridge mode, and find some cheap directional antennas to stick on there. To save some cash, you could mess with the pringles cans, but if you just want to get 'er done and not have to worry about what's broken all the time, fab-corp.com sells some nice antennas. If you get one that has a coax lead on it, just get the rp-tnc (I think, double check that) connector that hooks right on to the back of the waps. then you don't have to worry about buying pigtails.
Youmight try the wap54g's with the hacked 84mW power output with stock antennas. If you have windows facing each other and nothing in the way, it's possible it will work, but I doubt that if it did it'd be a great signal. Never know though, wireless is stupid that way, lol, you can never tell what it's going to do.
