there comes a time in every network collecting website's life where the wee counter of how the heck many networks have been seen rolls over the 8 million mark. for wigle.net that day was Nov. 20th. 8 million thanks to Beard who pushed the number that one extra spot bigger, and to everyone who have put in the other 7999999 over all the years. keep on stumblin': we'll keep on pokin' the interns to draw dots on maps faster!

there was an error in the report i ran, which incorrectly reported the 8 millionth network.
my apologies to folks for the mixup, the query is re-running now. never operate a database while whacked out on leftovers, kids.

So in this case, which 8 mil are we talking about here?

(as of just a moment ago)
Unique networks in DB: 8,846,082
Unique networks with location: 8,211,871

It's allways the number with location..

The Wigle Founding Fathers do tabulate unlocated numbers, but they prefer plotting the located numbers. After all, they'd need an army of Psychic Amish Stumblers if they were to plot the unlocated numbers.
They even once thought about doing colocated numbers, but that would mean they had to move the location of the Wigle interns to make space for the fractions. And moving Wigle interns isn't something that's done lightly.
