Great work WiGLE! How often is the web maps updated?

TIA :)

I'm quite new to this stuff, and perhaps I'm missing the point of all this, but I've been using Network Stumbler and I uploaded the file I've been saving when I scan for networks... Now I'd assume this is for integration with the other global data that's been collected, and that this data would be available so that others collecting data in the same area may take advantage of the collective data that he or she may not have collected themselves.

As I understand it there's a limited supply of mapping data available for maps that are generated, but should it not be possible to download the data plotted on [blank] maps or minimal detail? There doesn't seem to be any coherent way to make it download anything outside the US. My area is loaded with WiFi spots, and would like a more complete picture of the RF networks available.

WiGLE will return data anywhere in the world. If you want to plot on the blank map, then you need to change it's bounding coordinates to something other than 0's. Just open up the .mappack file with your favorite text editor, read the mapmaking guide found elsewhere on the forum, and change the coords. I'd suggest taking a paper map or some other map and getting the coordinates of 2 corners that way. Even better... scan in that map and go from there. The reason this is important is so that you can get the ratio correct. If the ratio between the lat-lat difference and the lon-lon difference isn't good, stuff will get all mushed together one direction or the other.

What I've found is http://www.gpsvisualizer.com/ and it allows you to upload the netstumbler file and it can plot it on top of various base maps. You can also just choose base maps based on coordinants, so I would assume this is the kind of thing I should be using to create a new pack.

edit:

yay! got something useable! and lots of virgin territory to cover. :-D
